CHARACTER ANIMATION

From its inception, Pathfinder AI was made to be a subsidiary of its parent company HireMe Inc.- an early career job network with a vision to ensure perfect career alignment across industry.

Pathfinder AI was created to serve a different demographic; high-school students who wanted to know what was next and College counselors who could not keep up with all the students needs.

It was born out of the need to ensure that their career goals were aligned before they even get to the need for the job market.

Only 1/3 of public high schools in the U.S. have dedicated college counselors. Each counselor is overwhelmed with an average of 400 students, resulting in parents spending $2.87 billion annually on independent college advisors at $3,000 - $10,000 per child.

The Challenge

goals and objectives

The high-level goal was to create a more efficient product for student management and reporting and I broke it down to define and understand what exactly the solution would look like.

Then, after a couple of brainstorming sessions, we created a Product Strategy Grid, identifying our key competitor’s products and envisioning what would be non-negotiables (features the product must-have), our product’s differentiation and unique selling point.

The Design: Engineering Empathy

After a series of meetings with the founders to understand their vision, and conducting user research, we decided to go with an agentic UI calibrated to solve for 3 of the main user pain points.

  1. Lack of personalization to meet student needs.

  2. Inadequate resources and data management.

  3. Difficulty in Self navigation.

Our solution was to create a vertical AI agent to automate the day to day repetitive administrative tasks of counselors and encouraging a user experience and visual design that felt personalized to the student's needs and could pull and organize student exploration for the counselors.

CHARACTER DESIGN - We got the idea of using a friendly character as a kind of career assistant who speaks to his audience. Melon is our friendly AI Mascot that is helpful, inquisitive, organized, and supportive. He's a floating assistant serving as a guide to both the counselors and students from the Dashboard all the way to giving recommendations and taking notes.

Multimodality - Allowing for a Multi-modal UI and for Melon to be a multi-functional AI agent both the counselor and student in retrieving and analyzing data

The Student’s Experience

For the explorers i.e. the students, we created a UI with a split screen interface; to the left, a Canvas Design allowing for paths to appear as nodes on the canvas and show relationality with colors and shapes, and, to the right, we have the AI agent - Melon, that they can ask clarifying questions and see their nodes change in real-time

Key Features

Canvas exploration and Connected Paths

Counselors are able to see the exploration of their student's paths, add suggestions and get real time reports on their student's actions.

Community resources

Share insights, collaborate on best practices, and control access to these exclusive groups, enhancing your collective knowledge and improving outcomes for your students.
